12 Strategies to Ensure Your Content Ideas Are New, Fresh and Creative

When you want your business to stand out online, it’s crucial to have a never-ending supply of new and creative ideas. Sometimes new ideas come naturally, but every business owner or entrepreneur will go through times when the creative juices aren’t flowing when they need them to the most.

This is when having go-to strategies for idea generation can come in handy. And not only will fresh content provide your audience with the best user-experience possible, it can also help with search rankings and social media traffic as well.

Here, 12 members of YEC share their best methods for coming up with new ideas to ensure your content stays fresh.

1. Expose Yourself to New Ideas and People

Real innovation happens at the intersection of two totally unrelated things, and the more we can expose ourselves to new ideas, people and experiences, the better. Fresh content comes from asking new questions, speaking to new voices and having new experiences that shake things up.

2. Get Your Team Involved by Polling Them

Get the team involved. You need to poll your entire company team on ideas. Create charts to track all posts and offer a contest for the best posts that have the most traffic.

3. Send Out Feedback Forms to Customers

When we want to find new content ideas, we talk to our customers. Every quarter, we send out feedback forms to our email subscribers so we can learn about their goals and pain points, which we use to produce new content and improve our products. We’ve managed to discover plenty of creative blog topics with this strategy.

4. Examine the Feedback on All Content

Examine the feedback on all of your postings. Even if you’re not aiming to come up with fresh ideas, you should do it. It allows you to interact with your target audience. Always reply to their questions and concerns. These remarks might serve as a tremendous source of motivation. You’ll be able to glean ideas from them for future articles.

5. Explore Your Project Management and Ticketing Systems

I frequently browse our project management and ticketing system for recurring problems our customers face. Additionally, I pay attention to blockers our team has or challenges our new staff faces in the organization. This is the source of inspiration I rely on when producing new educational content that not only helps the digital world but that supports our team (or clients) as well.

6. Consume Content From Multiple Industries

Consuming content from multiple disciplines or industries is the key to staying fresh. I’m in the travel business, but I have other passions in health and cryptocurrency, so while I consume content from creators outside my industry, I am always looking to borrow ideas. Some types of content that are popular in other industries can absolutely be used in your own journey as a creator. Don’t live in a silo!

7. Look for Google Image Tag Suggestions

I love looking for Google image tag suggestions. Sometimes these suggestions can offer wonderful content ideas for your blog. Just type in your keyword in Google and go to the “Image” tab. You’ll find several tag suggestions right below the search box. These suggestions are relatable to your keyword. So combine them strategically to come up with something unique.

8. Learn From Product Reviews

Your product reviews are a great resource you can use to create fresh, new content. Your customers have a lot to say and you could learn a lot from their opinions and perspectives, some of which you might not have considered before.

9. Be a Voracious Reader

Coming up with fresh content ideas comes down to being a voracious reader of content yourself. Staying on top of the latest trends by reading a wide variety of sources in relevant ancillary industries can provide early insights that captivate audiences and establish yourself as a thought leader.

10. Do Keyword Research to Find Trending Topics

The strategy I use is to perform keyword research to see what topics are trending within my area of expertise. Then, I also look at the related searches on Google to check what people search for related to my target keyword. Finally, I check my Google Analytics to see what posts are the most popular to get new content ideas. From my standpoint, hard data always works to figure out what’s working.

11. Look at User-Generated Content

A simple way to come up with fresh content is to look at user-generated content made by your audience. People on social media are extremely talented and creative. By following the top trends on social media, you can get inspiration for new and interesting content of your own.

12. Study Your Competition’s Content

There’s a lot you can learn from studying your competition’s content. Track your competitor’s posts on social media and their website to know what they’re writing about. Use their posts as inspiration. This doesn’t mean writing about the same topics. Instead, look for ways to present opposing points of view or fill in gaps that they haven’t. You’ll have plenty of new ideas this way.
